Form I-131 is used for applying for various forms of travel documents, including advance parole and reentry permits. On October 11, 2024, USCIS published an updated version of this form. The previous version of the form, April 1, 2024, has been replaced by the updated version, June 17, 2024. Applicants should ensure that any forms submitted moving forward are compliant with this update. If out of date forms are submitted, USCIS will reject the filing. Please note that the change is effective immediately.
In addition to the form edition change, the form itself has received extensive updates. Major updates to the form include:
- Form length has changed from 5 pages to 14 pages.
- Created specific sections for various categories of eligibility. The previous version created large, general groupings for many categories of eligibility.
- Moved personal details, such as applicant name, further down the document (from page 1 to page 4).
- Added details, such as “other names used” and “mailing address(es)” which are typically found on other immigration forms.
- Added a third gender identity option.
- Added USCIS account number box.
- Added a section for biographic information.
- Added an addendum page.
