Importantly, this stream does not require a positive LMIA, and the work permits are processed in about 10 business days. Families must follow the same procedures that employers undertake for the high and low wage streams, and they must provide evidence that a family member that needs in-home care, and that they prove they have the financial means to pay the caregiver’s wages. |
Foreign Academic Steam | For foreign academics to work in Canadian universities to fill in-demand positions, as well as bring new knowledge to the campuses. Universities must follow the same procedures as employers going through the high wage stream. Many cases involve foreign nationals hired in research positions at post-secondary institutions, thus they may be exempt from needing an LMIA, a work permit, or both. |
