Client Alert: USCIS Updates I-693 Filing Requirements

As part of the Adjustment of Status process, applicants seeking US permanent residence are generally required to submit to a medical exam to demonstrate that they are free of certain conditions that would otherwise render them inadmissible to the United States. In the past, the medical exam results, which are reported on form I-693, could be submitted with the Adjustment of Status application itself, or at a later date once the immigration officer requested it through a request for evidence (“RFE”). However, in the interest of efficiency, the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (“USCIS”) have made a change to this policy, requiring all medical exams to be submitted with the application at the time of filing. Applications lacking the required medical exam are subject to rejection. This change is in effect as of December 02, 2024 moving forward and is not retroactive. Please see the USCIS public announcement for more details.
